Whats Next
On this page you will find a list of what to do next after you made a post. Sometimes
your post will be answered immediately while other times it may never be answered.
These suggestions should help you in the meantime while you are waiting for someone
to answer your post.
Have your found animal scanned for a microhip.
You can take the found animal to a veterinarian's office to see if it's microchipped.
They can scan the animal for free and, if a chip is found, they will be able help you
find the registered owners. Many pets may have lost their collars before or after
getting lost or seperated from their owners, so the only means they have of being
identified is a microchip. It's definitely worth the time and effort to take them to
the nearest veterinarian's office to be scanned.
Print out a Spot a Stray flyer and post it around your neighbor
After you have posted your lost or found animal and you have received your approval
email, make sure you print out the Spot a Stray flyer located at the bottom of the
edit page for your posting. To reach the edit page click the second link in your
approval email. The flyer will have your animal’s picture along with pull tabs that
will identify you’re posting. Anyone who sees the flyer and wishes to contact you,
will be able to take one of the tabs and use it to find the site and find your
posting. Once they have found your posting they will be able to contact you via
email using the form at the bottom of the posting. This keeps your email address
private until you decide to respond to their message. It is a good idea to post
flyers at animal friendly places like local pet stores, veterinarians’ offices,
boarding and grooming facilities. These places offer lots of foot traffic so
the animal’s picture will be seen by many people.
Post on all possible pet lost and found websites
We know we are not the only lost and found pet site on the internet.
You should try to post your lost or found animal on as many other sites as possible.
While we do have a large amount of visitors to our site each day, the internet is
a big place and since the goal here is to reunite a lost pet with his/her owners
we encourage you to post their pictures out there as much as possible. Click
here for a list of additional
good websites to post to.
Check with your local animal control department
Your local animal control department is a great resource for helping locate your lost
animal. Remember, you may have to check back over a period of several days. To find your
local animal control department check your city pages in the local phone book
or check on-line.
